Sequin manages sequence data from a variety of sources and formats, including DNA or RNA sequences, Affymetrix GeneChip™ microarray probe sets, and cDNA clones.
Sequin can handle high-throughput, large-scale sequencing projects by providing the user with the means to manage and interact with a large collection of sequence data.
Sequin is small and easy to use, and provides a flexible interface that makes it easy to integrate into your current work environment.
As a stand-alone application, Sequin is easy to install and requires no external dependencies.
Sequin is a Unix/Linux application and can be run on all major flavours of Unix/Linux.
Sequin has been tested on UNIX and Linux systems on the following distributions: Linux Red Hat®;
Linux Fedora®; Linux Debian; Linux Ubuntu; Linux SUSE; Linux Mandriva; Linux Mandrake; Linux Mandriva; Linux SUSE
Sequin has also been tested on Windows NT and 2000.
Sequin has been tested on Mac OSX, Solaris, and BeOS.
Sequin has not been tested on Microsoft Windows, and you will need to run the Sequin Linux/Unix application on Windows.
Note: On Linux and UNIX, it is highly recommended that the Sequin source be installed in its own location rather than being included in the build directory.
INTRODUCTION
Sequin is a Unix/Linux application that provides the user with a convenient way to submit and update entries to the EMBL, GenBank, and DDBJ sequence databases.
Users can submit a single, short sequence, multiple sequences in different formats, insert annotation data, or complete phylogenetic or population studies.
Users can also submit one or more large collections of sequences and allow the Sequin application to update the data for the users collection automatically.
The work produced by Sequin is of a publishable quality, and can be used in a range of studies including for example molecular phylogenetics, transcriptomics, population genetic studies, and microarray expression analysis.
Sequin is written in the Perl programming language, and uses the Open Source Gtk+ toolkit for graphical user interfaces.
CONTRIBUTION INFORMATION
All of the development work for Sequin is conducted in a public, open source repository.
Any changes or contributions to Sequin are then made available via the repository for the whole community to use and contribute to.
